With over 100 R.I.D.E. spot-checks operating in the GTA on New Year’s Eve, you wouldn’t think it would be a good time to cruise around puffing weed while you had cocaine and a loaded handgun in your possession. But that’s what police allege one Toronto man did.
Cops stopped the driver at one of the roadside checks and promptly detected the smell of marijuana. A further searched turned up the coke, and even more worrisome, a loaded gun, cocked and ready to fire.
“They think they can get away with stuff and they don’t expect they’re going to be caught, and that’s part I suppose why people take the chances they do,” said O.P.P. Comm. Julian Fantino.
A 20-year-old Toronto man faces drug and weapons charges.
“One has to wonder what the next phase of that story would be,” Fantino said.
