GO Bus Drivers Ratify New Contract

GO bus riders woke up to some good news Saturday.

Workers voted on a tentative deal that was reached last week to avert a strike.

The Amalgamated Transit Union said that 72 per cent of its members voted to ratify the new contract on Friday.

The union represents 1,200 bus drivers, ticket agents and office workers.

Negotiations had broken down in December after 69 per cent of workers turned down a previous contract offer. A new deal was forged with help of a conciliator.

Some 30,000 people ride GO buses daily.
