Canes Beat Leafs In Overtime

Leafs fans have seen it time and time again, and it’s one of the reasons Mats Sundin is revered as a leader.  With the Buds down a goal and the seconds rapidly ticking away, the super Swede once again found a way to put the puck in the net on Thursday, forcing overtime against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Sundin’s goal came with just 11.4 seconds to go in the third.  Unfortunately, Carolina’s Rod Brind’Amour would spoil the unlikely comeback when he put the puck past Vesa Toskala with 1:40 to go in O.T., giving the Canes a hard-fought 3-2 win at home.

Scott Walker and Tim Gleason also scored for Carolina.

Brind’Amour’s game-winner came while Nik Antropov sat in the penalty box following an ill-timed hooking penalty.  When the Canes’ netted the winner, several Leafs voiced their disapproval at the officials for what they considered an unnecessary penalty that ultimately cost them the game.
