Heath Ledger Died From Accidental Drug Overdose: Coroner

Heath Ledger was found dead in his New York apartment nearly two weeks ago. Since then, rumours and accusations have flooded the media.  On Wednesday, the New York City medical examiner’s office  released its final report: the “ Brokeback Mountain ” star died of an accidental drug overdose.

Only prescription drugs were found in his system. The painkillers OxyContin and hydrocodone, the anti-anxiety drugs Valium and Xanax, and the sleep aids Restoril and Unisom were all found in Ledger’s blood. Ellen Borakove, the spokesperson for the examiner’s office, wouldn’t say the concentrations of the drugs in his blood. She did note that no one drug was responsible for his death, but that the combination of the drugs killed him.

The actor had publicly stated he was taking sleep aids after playing the role of “The Joker” in the latest Batman movie.

In a statement, Ledger’s father Kim says, “Heath’s accidental death serves as a caution to the hidden dangers of combining prescription medication, even at low dosage.”
