The Toronto Maple Leafs will have to pull of a near-miracle if they expect to fight for Lord Stanley in this year’s playoffs. The task at hand becomes even more daunting if captain Mats Sundin is relegated to the sidelines.
Sundin’s status remains unclear for Saturday’s crucial contest against the rival Sabres after suffering a groin pull in Toronto ‘s previous game against Philly.
“I think it’s tough to say (if I’m gong to play Saturday,)” Sundin admitted after a light workout Friday. “I haven’t really tried to push it 100%. It’s impossible to say, it’s day to day. It feels better than it did after the game, so we’ll see. “
Head coach Paul Maurice will ultimately leave the decision up to Sundin.
“I’m going to let him make the call on how he feels,” he said. “He’s a veteran player that knows his body better than anybody else. He knows what he’s going to be able to do.”
