A sunny spring day at a Toronto car wash turned dark in a hurry when Toronto Police closed in on an armed man near the Eglinton and Alameda-area business.
It’s alleged the suspect fled from his nearby car, after things went sideways during a routine traffic stop.
Police say he appeared nervous and tried to make a quick getaway. The hot pursuit ended with another gun (pictured) being taken off Toronto’s streets.
The weapon was later identified as a loaded Mauser 7.65mm semi-automatic pistol.
“It was actually the second handgun we’ve gotten in as many days under similar circumstances,” said Sgt. Jason Waters. “It’s certainly a reality, there’s a lot of them here on the street and you never know when you’re going to trip across one.”
This is the 11th gun seized by the Toronto Anti Violence Intervention Squad this year.
Jermaine Benjamin, 26, was arrested at the scene. Prior to this arrest, he was prohibited from possessing firearms. Benjamin has no fixed address.
