Male e-scooter operator dies following crash near Bloor and Dufferin

A 27-year-old man who was operating an e-scooter has been pronounced dead following a crash involving a vehicle in Toronto’s west end.
Emergency crews were called to the area of Bloor Street West and Dufferin Street near Dufferin Mall just after 8 a.m. on Friday.
Paramedics say they transported the man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he later died.
Police say the e-scooter was heading south on Dufferin when it came into contact with a black Honda Civic that was heading north on Dufferin, making a left turn into the mall. The male rider was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
Inspector Dan Pravica told reporters on Friday afternoon that the police force has seen a concerning increase in e-scooter-related collisions with other vehicles.
“Please be cognizant of where you are and what you’re doing… unfortunately, we have someone who isn’t going home today, regardless of who is at fault,” said Insp. Pravica.
Police say the 30-year-old driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.
