Most Common Diet Mistakes

It’s almost summer and for most of us that means hitting the great outdoors for some fresh air and sunshine.  It also means we’ll be wearing less and less clothing, and that extra layer of padding we’ve packed on during those long cold winter months will become even more visible.

That’s why summer and dieting seem to go hand and hand.  But your efforts could be wasted if you make even a few simple dieting mistakes.  Here’s some helpful tips for staying slim.

  • Never go grocery shopping on an empty stomach, and when you’re there, stick to the outside aisles – dairy and produce.
  • Shop online – a study from the University of Connecticut showed that online shoppers tended to choose fewer high-fat foods.
  • Keep reasonable work hours. The longer you work, the greater the temptation to grab unhealthy snacks.
  • Don’t reward exercise with sugary or fatty snacks.
  • Don’t slag on portion control. A few extra bites here and there can add up.
  • Get moving. Go for a walk after a day of sitting at the office.
  • Don’t fall out of your exercise groove. It gets easier the more you do it.
  • Be careful about taste testing while making dinner. Keep a bowl of veggies close by so you can keep your fingers out of the main meal while it’s cooking.
  • Minimize the amount of tempting snacks in the fridge. Allow yourself one treat to keep in the kitchen and don’t buy another until you’ve finished the first.
  • Don’t keep your weight loss goals a secret. Support from family and friends can help you shed those pounds.
