The Kids In The Hall have reunited once again.
The offbeat group of comic legends, which first went to air on the CBC in 1988, have returned for a cross-Canada tour.
It’s been 20 years. What’s changed for Wednesday’s show at Massey Hall?
“The Kids In The Hall are exactly the same only we’re older,” responds member Kevin McDonald.
And with that age, comes wisdom.
“Now we’re smart … we’re smart about banking things,” he adds.
The reunion wasn’t without concern from the kids themselves. McDonald and Dave Foley had been writing skits as Kids In The Hall after working together at Second City Training Centre. In 1984, they met up with Bruce McCulloch and Mark McKinney, who had been working together in Calgary.
Scott Thompson joined in January 1985, and the troupe was beamed into Canadian homes as of 1988. They went their separate ways in 1994.
“We didn’t speak about it, it was unspoken, but there was a ‘did we still have it?'” McDonald admits.
“And it had to be organic; we couldn’t force it.”
Though it comes from a biased source, McDonald himself, the verdict is in: “We still have it.”
