More Wild Storms Caused Dangerous Conditions Across The GTA

Saturday afternoon ended with sunshine, but the GTA saw some wicked storms earlier in the day.

Dangerous driving conditions, hail, and high water are all a result of the weather that swept through the city, adding to the considerable rain we’ve seen already this month.

Many people were caught off-guard by the sudden winds and rain, including fans at Wakestock on the Toronto Islands, some of whom were injured when a tent there was struck by lightening. A girl was sent to hospital as a result, and three adults reportedly received minor injuries.

The rain and hail today represented the ninth day out of the past ten that have seen precipitation, all adding to the wettest summer on record in Toronto.

Some residents are suffering property damage because of the repeated flooding in their areas.

“Every day I’m checking the weather channel,” said Sherry, an exasperated resident who’s experienced water damage.

There’s more danger from rising rivers than just flooding though, and that’s why a High Water Safety Bulletin has been issued for Toronto. Authorities are recommending that parents be extra vigilant about keeping an eye on kids and pets around the fast-flowing and extremely high waters. Or better yet, keep them as far away as possible.

And we may not have seen the last of the rain yet, as forecasts for the next couple of days reveal the possibility of more tumultuous weather.

Although the severe thunderstorm watch has been lifted for now, unsettled conditions more storms may hit the area overnight on Saturday, and possibly again Sunday afternoon.
