Woman Found Dead In Mississauga Home

Sunday morning was a grim one, rife with tragedy in Peel Region as police arrived at a home on Carigar Court to find a woman’s lifeless body.

They made the grisly discovery near Burnhamthorpe and Cawthra just before 8am.

“We received a call to a residence … for a report of a disturbance,” outlined Const. Samantha Nulle of Peel Police.

“Our officers attended the scene and located a female victim who was deceased.”

That woman, since identified as 57-year-old Susan Ryan, was discovered without vital signs. Her death has now become a homicide investigation, the 25th one of the year for Peel Region.

A man inside the home was transported to hospital with minor injuries and was subsequently arrested.

He remains in police custody and is charged with second degree murder. His name hasn’t been released but police say they’re not looking for any other suspects. They also won’t comment on the whereabouts of Ryan’s husband, Larry. The retired Toronto Police officer had been married to the victim for more than 30 years.

Ryan owned her own real estate firm and was known to be active in the community.

Longtime friend Vince Santoro said he was with the Ryans in their home as recently as Friday night.

“Just having a few drinks, smoking a cigar … just talking,” Santoro said.

As the investigation proceeded Sunday, detectives remained tight-lipped about exactly what they think happened inside the house, which is located in a generally quiet and affluent neighbourhood.

There are reports that Ryan was shot to death, but that too has yet to be confirmed.

“Investigators will go through the home and process the evidence,” before releasing the cause of death, Nulle said.

A post-mortem will be conducted Tuesday.
