Highway 400 Reopens After Several Accidents Close Southbound Lanes

Though the snow isn’t falling yet, the roads are still a mess due to the cold temperatures and Friday’s storm.

A series of accidents closed Highway 400 Saturday between Highway 9 and Major Mackenzie. It reopened around 2pm.

It appears that an initial collision at King Side Road at 11:30am caused a series of pile-ups that led to dozens of drivers losing control of their vehicles.

The first crash was likely the result of black ice, packed slush and poor driving on the major route. After that, there was a six-car collision, a nine-car collision, and a whopping 14 vehicles involved in the final incident.

The southbound lanes were shut down as the OPP investigated and emergency crews rushed to the scene.

Amazingly, none of the injuries are believed to be serious.
