Cops Stumble On Alleged Kidnapping While Responding To Separate Call

Police were in the right place at the right time on Saturday, and managed to stop a suspected kidnapping as it was happening.

Cops say they happened to be in the building on St. Dennis Drive, in the DVP and Eglinton Ave. area on a completely unrelated matter, when they ran into something odd going on in the hallway.

Three people shouted at the officers that they were being kidnapped and pleaded for help. Cops didn’t have much time to react, as three people who appeared to be holding the trio scattered and began to run, with the officers in hot pursuit.

They caught up to one of them and arrested a man armed with a gun at the scene.

The ETF was called in to subdue the others, including a fourth suspect police weren’t aware of at the start of the incident. Cops aren’t saying much about what started the dispute, but do confirm the accused trio and their alleged captives knew each other. It’s not clear what they may have been planning to do with the three they were allegedly leading away.

The investigation then led police to a building on Red Maple Road in Richmond Hill, near Yonge and Carville, where they say they found a cache of ammunition, some drugs and another handgun with the serial number filed off.

All the suspects – 36-year-old Ronald Burgess, 35-year-old Gregory Davis, John Ignagni, 25, and 31-year-old Tammy Massicotte – are from Toronto. The first three are facing serious charges, including robbery while armed with a firearm, forcible confinement, extortion, threatening death and kidnapping.

Over all, they’re facing 80 charges in total.

All the accused made their first appearances at Old City Hall courts on Sunday.
