Guns Found Within Half An Hour Of Each Other At Two Toronto Schools

What is going on in GTA schools?

For the third time in less than a week, guns have turned up on local campuses, this time within half an hour of each other.

The first incident took place around 9:30am Monday when an officer on patrol at Marc Garneau C.I. on Overlea Blvd. stopped two students leaving the school. One was allegedly in breach of some court-imposed conditions. The second is accused of carrying a loaded revolver. The age of both kids: just 14.

While his companion is facing causing a disturbance and failing to comply charges, the other teen is looking at far more serious accusations, including carrying a concealed weapon and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

Both will appear in youth court on Tuesday.

Then, half an hour later, another call came in, this time to Albert Campbell C.I. (top left) at 1550 Sandhurst Circle, near Finch and McCowan Rd.

The school was locked down at 10am after a gun was found by officials during a locker check. It doesn’t appear authorities have been able to track the weapon to anyone, since no arrests were made. The lockdown was lifted by 11:30am.

Both schools are among the Toronto campuses that have police on duty.

It’s been a disturbing week in GTA schools for this kind of threat.

On Thursday, a 12-year-old boy was taken into custody after he allegedly brought a disabled firearm and a bayonet to class. The child later told authorities he had been bullied.

The next day, cops in Courtice, Ont. wound up at Holy Trinity H.S. where a fake bomb sent the school into lockdown. When police arrived, they allegedly found two 17-year-old male students with an imitation improvised explosive device.

The pair was arrested and charged with mischief and weapons dangerous.
