Vaughan Mayor Cleared Of Allegations

Vaughan Mayor Linda Jackson has been cleared of conflict-of-interest allegations related to a closed-door meeting back in November of 2007.

“I am extremely satisfied justice has been served and that this matter is finally resolved so that I can move on with the business of the City of Vaughan,” Jackson stated in a press release.

She had been accused of the misconduct by a local couple who have been vocal critics. And it’s just one of a long list of charges that has been leveled against her and her husband, Mario Campese.

According to published reports, Jackson had her office swept for bugs using $3,000 of taxpayers’ money.

And Campese is accused of violating the Municipal Elections Act while he was the campaign manager for Jackson’s successful leadership bid.

An audit last year allegedly showed the mayor went over her campaign budget by more than $12,000. Members have also questioned the funding source behind two newspaper ads during Jackson’s campaign.
