It’s been almost a week, but Toronto Police Homicide Squad detectives believe they’ve collared the final suspect in a brazen murder that took place in a Keele and Rogers Rd. alleyway last week.
Daniel Lewis was gunned down in a hail of bullets in broad daylight last Tuesday, after witnesses heard someone yelling “don’t disrespect me!”
Cops reveal the 19-year-old had been taking part in an event at a local community centre when a dispute escalated out of control.
A 17-year-old young offender was arrested and a weapon recovered. But another suspect was last seen running into traffic and may have narrowly missed being hit by an oncoming van.
Cops appealed for that driver to come forward and asked for other witnesses to do the same. Their plea worked and they were able to come up with a name and a suspect. He’s also 17, which means his identity is protected by law.
Investigators have yet to say what sparked the violence other than to note it wasn’t anything of great consequence.
In a exclusive story last week, the victim’s mother told CityNews she always feared her child would wind up dying early, because he’d been running around with the wrong crowd since being expelled from school at age 13.
But Lewis had always downplayed her fears and told her to leave him alone.
The latest suspect will appear in a Finch Ave. W. courtroom on Tuesday, facing second-degree murder charges.
