A suspect in a brazen daylight stabbing at one of the city’s busiest intersections is in custody, after a frightening attack downtown Monday night.
Police tell CityNews.ca 23-year-old Christopher Hunter turned himself in to 32 Division at 9:34am Tuesday, after authorities plastered his picture across the media.
The drama that first put him on police radar began the night before around the dinner hour at Yonge and Wood Sts., near College. A man waiting for two friends got into some kind of confrontation with a second male and the fight escalated.
What happened next left witnesses in shock and a pile of bloody clothing on the sidewalk (below). The assailant pulled out a 10″ buck knife and repeatedly stabbed the victim numerous times in the chest, abdomen and arms.
The brazen attacker then fled down Carlton St. but he didn’t make a clean getaway. He was captured on video surveillance cameras and cops were able to make an I.D. by taking a closer look at the tapes.
They released his name, his picture and the video and the pressure was apparently enough to force Hunter to surrender himself to officers in the morning.
He’s facing some serious charges, including attempted murder, aggravated assault and weapons dangerous
Cops still don’t know what sparked the violence or if there was an attempted robbery involved. They’re also still probing whether the suspect and the victim knew each other. A knife was recovered at the scene.
The victim remains in hospital nursing some serious wounds, but has undergone surgery and is expected to survive.
Hunter will make his first court appearance on Wednesday at College Park Courts.
