New On DVD – August 11, 2009

I Love You, Man CityNews.ca Pick of the Week – Extremely funny guy film that is still sweet enough to please the women in the crowd. When Peter (Paul Rudd) proposes to his girlfriend Zooey (Rashida Jones) he realizes he has no male friends to ask to be his best man. This leads him on a series of “man dates” to find someone to be his best friend. The hilarious Jason Segel stars as Sydney; the one guy Peter actually wants to be friends with. Special features for the Blu-ray and DVD release include commentary, gag reel, deleted scenes and more. Film **** out of 5 stars. DVD/Blu-ray *** out of 5 stars.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 25th Anniversary Collector’s Edition
– Cowabunga! It’s been almost 20 years since Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles hit theatres and the film is just as fun (and silly) as ever. Unfortunately the sequels still suck (with the exception of TMNT, which I don’t consider an official sequel). The box set includes all four films in the Turtle saga in a very nifty round tin that looks like a sewer grate (it can also be used to hold extra DVDs). It also comes with “tubular tattoos” and four coloured masks (one to represent each turtle). Each film is presented in both 16×9 and 4×3 aspect ratios and all look and sound great. Sadly, special features are lacking on all titles except TMNT; which includes commentary, deleted scenes, interviews and more. Also available on Blu-ray. Box Set *** out of 5 stars.

17 Again – Zac Efron and Matthew Perry star; need I say more? Leslie Mann does help ease the pain but this movie is still not worth your time. No special features on the regular DVD release. Film ** out of 5 stars. DVD * out of 5 stars.
