Statement from Toronto Mayor David Miller on Thursday night’s storm (Friday, Aug. 21)
————–
“While the full impact of last night’s storm is still being assessed, Toronto was fortunate to have escaped the worst of it.”
“The thoughts of all Torontonians are with the people of Vaughan, the Town of Durham and other municipalities impacted by this devastating storm as they go about recovery and reconstruction efforts.”
“I have spoken to Mayor Jackson and have offered Toronto’s assistance to Vaughan should it be required.”
“I want to commend the swift and wide-ranging response of our police, fire and emergency medical services as well as our urban forestry division and Toronto Hydro who handled literally hundreds of calls. They continue to work in tandem where necessary to clear fallen trees and restore power in areas still affected.”
“Other city divisions are reviewing their operations for any potential impacts to city services. If there is any impact, updates will be provided to the media and on www.toronto.ca.
