Sandra From Toronto Actually Councillor Bussin

A caller identifying herself only as “Sandra from Toronto” dialed in to John Tory’s show on CFRB on Friday.

The topic of discussion was outgoing Mayor David Miller.

During the course of their conversation, she called Tory a three-time loser and criticized the station’s treatment of Miller’s decision to retire.

But there was something familiar about that caller’s voice.

On Wednesday, city councillor Sandra Bussin admitted that she had made the call.

Tory had asked her point blank if she worked for the city – and Bussin had said no.

Her response? She told the Bill Carroll Morning Show with Dave Trafford that she works for her constituents.

She also claimed her comments were made as a listener, not a councillor.

“I believe she didn’t tell the truth,” Councillor Denzil Minnan-Wong told CityNews on Wednesday.

“She didn’t disclose who she was. In my view, she does work for the city.”

Councillor Rob Ford also questioned Bussin’s decision.

“I don’t know why she’s trying to hide her identity, especially when she was saying that [Tory’s] facts were wrong. She knows all the facts, she should identify herself as a councillor and bring the proper facts forward.”

Bussin later apologized in front of council.

“I have sent a letter of apology to John Tory on the CFRB show,” she said.

“So I do apologize for being caught up in the moment.”

Some councillors have suggested that the city’s Integrity Commissioner should look into the outburst, but that may not be likely as Bussin has apologized.
