The TTC will be extending its hours and offering up free service again this New Year’s Eve.
Buses, streetcars, and subways will be free between midnight and 4 a.m.
The free service is courtesy of the Toronto Entertainment Alliance. The coalition of bar and nightclub owners, along with sponsors, will be picking up the $85,000-price tag.
“There’s no excuse for anybody ever drinking and driving, and now you have even less of an excuse to do that because not only can you get home until 4 a.m. on the TTC […], you can do it for free,” TTC spokesperson Brad Ross told 680News.
But, come January 3, 2010, the fire hike will kick in.
Aside from the dismal hike, Ross said there are lots of exciting things on the horizon for the TTC in 2010, most notably new subway cars.
“It will have what open gangways, so you’ll be able to walk from one end of the train to the other,” Ross said.
It will also sport video screens and antimicrobial coating on the hand bars.
