2009 Holiday R.I.D.E. Program Stats

Despite continual warnings about the dangers of drinking and driving, it appears that the message still isn’t getting through. Holiday R.I.D.E. program numbers for 2009 show that slightly more people were charged with drinking and driving this year in comparison with 2008. A total of 314 spotchecks were conducted over a 36 day period.
The final numbers are as follows:
Final spotcheck summary 2009 (day 36)
• Vehicles stopped: 99,850
• Drivers tested: 1,715
• Charged Over 80 (includes all Over 80 charges): 60
• Charged refuse (includes all fail/refuse charges): 16
• Charged impaired: 23
• Issued warn range suspension: 190
• Issued G1/G2 suspension: 3
• Issued 90-day suspension: 76
• Total suspensions issued: 269
• Vehicles impounded: 136
• Total people charged: 76
• Total drinking and driving charges laid: 99
Final spotcheck summary 2008 (day 36)
• Vehicles stopped: 87,965
• Drivers tested: 1,725
• Charged over 80 (includes all over 80 charges): 65
• Charged refuse (includes all fail/refuse charges): 7
• Charged impaired: 20
• Issued 12-hour suspension: 220
• Issued 90-day suspension: 76
• Total suspensions issued: 292
• Total persons charged: 74
• Total drinking and driving charges laid: 92
R.I.D.E. spotchecks will continue throughout the year, and police remind drivers that a zero tolerance policy is in effect.
