A 23-year-old convicted of aggravated assault and use of a firearm in connection with the shooting of a TTC bus driver has been sentenced to 11 years in prison.
The sentence was handed down to Malcolm Chalmers Friday afternoon, with two years credit for time served reducing the prison term to nine years.
Chalmers was found not guilty of attempted murder in November, following an October 2005 incident when TTC employee Jamie Pereira was hit with a bullet in the face and blinded near Morningside Avenue and Sewells Road.
He was, however, convicted at that time on the two lesser charges.
Chalmers was originally charged with the crime two years after the original incident, while already in custody in Durham on unrelated charges.
