Apple unveils new iPad tablet-style computer

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Officially, it’s not even available in this country yet but that’s not stopping the hype. Apple’s iPad is the latest entry in the must-have gadget wars.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs unveiled the device today for the first time, finally letting us look at what’s been a very hot tech rumour for months now.

Larger than an iPhone but smaller than a laptop, the iPad will be available in two months. SFU Communications Professor, Peter Chow-White, says Apple might be trying to carve a new niche for itself at the expense of its competition. “Dell and a lot of computer companies have been putting out much smaller-sized laptops. Because people don’t want to carry around all these massive laptops that are heavy and just cumbersome.”

Jobs himself took a jab at netbooks today, saying they’re not any good as he showed off the new iPad which weighs about 1.5 pounds and has a 9.7-inch display. It also should have a battery life of 10 hours.
