British Medical Journal retracts research that links use of a vaccine to autism

The British Medical Journal, “The Lancet,” has issued a full retraction of an earlier study linking the measles-mumps-rubella vaccine to autism.

The 1998 study sparked what doctors referred to as the 12-year vaccination scare.

The retraction comes after the Britain General Medical Council determined the doctor who conducted the research, Dr. Andrew Wakefield, was dishonest and irresponsible.

The Centre for Disease Control said the vaccine has always been safe.

“The Lancet” now said it should have never published the research.

Dr. Wakefield and two colleagues now face being stripped of their right to practice medicine.
