TTC Chair Adam Giambrone is once again making headlines for the wrong reasons after it was revealed he spent more than $3000 of his office budget on transportation, with the majority on taxis, despite the fact that he has a city-provided Metropass.
Giambrone defended his use of taxis, releasing the following statement:
“I am on the TTC 4-5 times a day and this is my main mode of transportation.”
“Clearly there are not enough taxis bills submitted for this to be my main mode of transport. There are, however, sometimes when taxis are needed due to time constraints or what I am carrying with me.”
Giambrone does not own a car.
TTC riders greeted the news with mixed reactions, but some councillors, most notably Rob Ford, took the news as more evidence of the excessive spending that plagues City Hall.
“(Giambrone’s) not the only one,” Ford notes.
Ford has suggested that councillors’ $53,100 office budgets be slashed in half to curb unnecessary spending.
