One of two men charged in a brazen hospital robbery appeared in court on Monday.
Marcos Marinoni, 26, is accused of stealing $7000 worth of jewelry from a dying woman. The case was put over until Friday.
Authorities claim Marinoni and Issac Lewkowicz, 29, went from floor to floor before they reached the palliative care unit at the Toronto East General Hospital.
“I would say, right now, they’re probably the two most reviled people in Toronto,” Toronto Police Det. Chris Higgins said.
The alleged thefts happened at around 8pm on March 16. The suspects were caught on surveillance video.
Lewkowicz will also appear in court on Friday.
“There is a code among criminals and people in jail, you know, they don’t have it easy to begin with, but we’ll see how they make out,” Higgins added.
Police believe the suspects may be responsible for a slew of similar robberies at Toronto hospitals. The pair face a total of 40 charges, including using stolen credit cards.
The victim, an 83-year-old woman, died just before police arrived.
