Rob Ford Enters Mayoral Race

One of the city’s best-known and brash fiscal conservatives entered the mayoral race Thursday.

Coun. Rob Ford announced his intention to run for Toronto’s top political post during his regular morning spot on AM640. He then walked to City Hall to file the necessary paperwork.

Ford, who’s come under fire in the past for controversial comments and is known for his keeping a very trim budget in his City Hall office, has represented Ward 2 (Etobicoke North) for a decade.

If he becomes mayor, Ford reportedly plans to reduce the size of city council and limit free passes and other perks politicians receive.

Ford’s team will hold a wine and cheese event Friday at the Toronto Congress Centre starting at 7pm.

Ford joins former federal Liberal party administrator Rocco Rossi, former Ontario cabinet minister George Smitherman, Councillor Giorgio Mammoliti, Women’s Post CEO Sarah Thomson and deputy mayor Joe Pantalone. While these names represent the best-known candidates, nearly 30 people are running for the position.
