TTC Staff Put To The Test On Hidden Camera

The TTC’s frontline employees often have to bear angry, ill-mannered and unstable riders, so it’s no wonder they sometimes bite back.

Indeed, of the more than 300 written complaints the TTC has sifted through, the biggest beef was not with delays or fare disputes, but with rudeness of staff – yelling, verbal abuse, indifference, a lack of people skills and even sexual harassment.

The TTC’s newly-assembled customer service panel is reaching out to riders on just these matters.

It has set up a website to receive input and has planned focus groups and face-to-face meetings with customers and TTC employees.

Also, starting next week, chair Steve O’Brien and other panel members will be on hand at a number of subway stations to greet the public and answer questions. Here are the details:

Bloor-Yonge Station
April 28, 11:30am – 12:30pm
April 28, 4:30pm – 5:30pm

Kennedy Station
April 29, 4:30pm – 5:30pm

Kipling Station
May 4, 7am – 8am

Finch Station
May 6, 4:30pm – 5:30pm

In the meantime, CityNews went undercover with a hidden camera to find out whether the complaints are warranted or if ticket collectors and bus drivers are getting a bad rap. Watch the video below.
