Queen may name next governor general during Canada visit

There is speculation when the queen comes to Canada next month she could name the next governor general.

The Monarchist League of Canada told The Toronto Star it’s a strong possibility.

Michaelle Jean is set to step down this fall.

The governor-general is the queen’s official representative in Canada.

Retired general John de Chastelain and wheelchair athlete Rick Hansen are among the rumoured candidates to be our next governor general.

But almost 15,000 people have signed onto a Facebook page suggesting Star Trek’s captain James Kirk – also known as actor William Shatner – be named to the post.
