Possible salmonella contamination forced a California company to recall a line of salads sold across Canada.
A total of 19 Fresh Express romaine-based salads are being pulled off store shelves. All have use-by dates, found on the upper right-hand corner of the package, of May 13 through May 16 and an “S” in the product code.

So far there have been no reports of illness. On Wednesday the Canadian Food Inspection Agency released a warning about these products and reminded consumers that foods contaminated with salmonella may not look or smell spoiled.
Eating foods contaminated with salmonella is especially dangerous for young children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems. Illness associated with the bacterium causes nausea, vomiting, high fever, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
The salads were distributed in Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba, Alberta and British Columbia.
