PROVO, Utah – Former child star Gary Coleman has passed away at the age of 42.
On Wednesday, the actor suffered a brain hemorrhage, and was taken to a hospital in Utah. He was taken off life support Friday.
Coleman soared to fame as Arnold Jackson on the comedy Diff’rent Strokes, and earlier had appeared on The Jeffersons and Good Times as Penny’s friend Gary.
He also appeared in a 1978 pilot for a revival of the Little Rascals as Stymie.
Coleman’s brain hemorrhage followed a seizure he suffered in February, after a raging argument on the set of The Insider. The argument was triggered when lawyer Lisa Bloom began to ask him about accusations he had assaulted his wife.
In more recent years, Coleman dealt with a serious of financial and legal problems, in addition to health issues. He suffered from kidney disease, which was partially the reason for his short stature. He had two kidney transplants, many dialysis treatments, and heart surgery.
