Protesting The G20 With Graffiti

The upcoming G8 and G20 summits are costing the country $1 billion, shutting down public spaces and closing universities and businesses.
Whether it was the inconvenience of the world leaders gathering in Ontario, or their planned discussion, several vandals in Toronto aren’t happy about it.
Protesters allegedly targeted several banks along Spadina between Dundas and Queen, spray painting in red and black over the ATMs.
They also hit up a police van parked right outside of 52 Division. Their edited message can be seen above.
One person was arrested and police are searching for a second suspect. Samuel Bradley Kadosh, 22, of Toronto, has been charged with nine counts of Mischief Under.
But Ottawa won’t be paying for the damage. The federal government will not be compensating any business owners during the summits.

Meanwhile officials announced plans for the security perimeter that will surround the Metro Convention Centre during the summit.
A 10-foot fence will stretch along Bay St. to Blue Jays Way, up to Wellington St. East. The southern boundary will be York St., west on Bremner, south on Simcoe, west on Lakeshore and around the Rogers Centre. It will go up June 7.
TTC streetcar service will also be affected by the summit. Some cars, including those on the King line, will keep their doors closed and not allow people on or off near the Convention Centre.
Anyone going inside the security zone will be subject to a check and will have to explain why they need access to the area.
There are said to be three security zones around the summit:
- A red zone, which is accessible by participants and employees only
- The fenced security perimeter, requiring a check
- An all-traffic zone, encompassing the area from Yonge St. to Spadina Ave. and from King St. to Lake Ontario.
G8 leaders will be gathering in Huntsville, Ont. on June 25 and 26th and G20 delegates will be meeting in Toronto on June 26 and 27th.
