Arrest Made In Lucita Charles Death

Patrick Barrett has been arrested by Durham police on charges of second-degree murder.
Barrett turned himself in Wednesday evening at an Oshawa police station, before being transferred to Toronto.
The 39-year old is in connection with the death of his girlfriend, 28-year-old Lucita Charles. She was found dead Monday inside her ground floor apartment at 15 Harding Avenue, in the Jane and Lawrence area.
The victim, originally from St. Lucia, was the mother of a seven-year-old boy with cerebral palsy. She had apparently been stabbed to death.
Investigators believe an abandoned car found early Wednesday morning belongs to Barrett.
Police received a tip from a friend of the suspect claiming he’d left his orange Kia Rio at a gas station in the Yonge and Sheppard area. That friend also reportedly told police she’d driven the suspect to the Oshawa area.
Toronto NBA player Jamal Magloire, of the Miami Heat, was touched by the story and is starting a trust fund to pay for Charles’ funeral.
Barrett will be appearing in court Thursday morning, 10am at 2201 Finch Ave.
