Arrest In Teen’s Murder

Police have arrested a suspect just days after 16-year-old Justice Ferrigno was stabbed to death during a trivial exchange of words near St. Clair and Bathurst.

Authorities found Ferrigno suffering from stab wounds on the sidewalk on Hilton Avenue, near Nina Street, just after 11pm Saturday. He was rushed to hospital where he died.

Investigators say a trivial exchange of words between two teens near Hillcrest Community School spilled out onto a nearby sidewalk and led to the deadly knife attack.

“It’s absolutley no gang involvement,” Det. Mary Vruna said.

“We have no information that any of these parties are involved in a gang. The words that were exchanged were minor.”

On Tuesday Toronto Police announced an arrest in the case. Jonathan Cioppa, 18, is charged with second-degree murder and was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday morning.

Detectives are still appealing for witnesses to come forward. If you have any information call police at (416) 808-7400 or Crime Stoppers at (416) 222-TIPS.
