Shots Fired Around G20 Security Zone

As the police presence downtown ramps up ahead of the G20 summit this weekend authorities are searching for a gunman who fired at least four rounds into the air from a car near the security zone.
RCMP officers reportedly heard the shots around 3:30am Tuesday on Mercer Street, near King and John Streets, inside the traffic management area and just outside the security zone. No one was hit by gunfire.
“We don’t believe this was G20 related,” Toronto Police Sgt. Tim Burrows said.
“There’s nothing to indicate that it was, except the geographical location,” he added.
Authorities found two shell casings and they’re now trying to track down a black BMW or Mercedes with tinted windows.
This incident comes as security efforts and demonstrations increase ahead of the massive event at the Metro Convention Centre. On Monday, dozens of anti-poverty activists moved toward the G20 zone, but were blocked by police.
Crews put the finishing touches on the fence around the downtown security zone Monday.
Businesses, including HMV on Yonge Street, were boarding up their windows with plywood, while banks applied shatter-proof film to large glass panels.
