Harper Happy With Summit Outcome

Prime Minister Stephen Harper says he’s very happy with the outcome of the G8 and G20 summits.

He told CTV News in an interview broadcast today that the summits “went as well as I was hoping.”

At the G20 summit that concluded in Toronto on Sunday, the leaders backed a Canadian-led plan to cut deficits and stabilize the world economy.

The final communique commits advanced economies to cutting their deficits in half by 2013, and putting debt loads on a stable or downward path by 2016.

But Harper acknowledges that there’s a lot more work to be done.

Harper also deplored the violence by “certain thuggish criminal element” during the summit in Toronto.
