Lisa LaFlamme to take over CTV anchor duties from Lloyd Robertson

CTV’s national affairs correspondent Lisa LaFlamme will take over the reins from “CTV National News” anchor Lloyd Robertson.

With huge smiles on both their faces, Robertson presented the anchor chair to LaFlamme at CTV headquarters in Scarborough.

LaFlamme comes to the job after 20 years in broadcast journalism. She started her career in her hometown of Kitchener and has reported from around the world covering wars, elections and natural disasters. She’s won several industry awards.

LaFlamme will actually share the anchor desk with Robertson in a transition period, before taking over late next year.

Robertson announced Thursday that he will retire as the network’s chief anchor in the middle of 2011.

By then, he will have marked 35 years with CTV, and 28 years helming its flagship news program.

The 76-year-old said he is moving on to other roles within the network, including a position as co-host of the current affairs series W5.

Over a career that spans more than 50 years, Robertson established himself as one of Canada’s most familiar and trusted faces on television.
