Man Facing G20-Related Explosives Charge Denied Bail

A man facing G20-related weapons and explosives charges was denied bail Tuesday.
Byron Sonne, 37, was arrested June 22 after authorities searched his home in the affluent south Forest Hill neighbourhood. Aside from the weapons and explosives charges, the computer security expert is accused of attempted mischief and intimidating a judicial system participant.
Details of the evidence presented at his court hearings are subject to a publication ban. Sonne’s friends and colleagues claim he poses no threat and that the charges against him are the result of a big misunderstanding.
Sonne’s wife, Kristen Peterson, was arrested June 23 after authorities executed search warrants in the Muskoka area. She’s also facing weapons and explosives charges.
Peterson was released on bail under the conditions she lives with her parents and doesn’t have any contact with her spouse.
Sonne posted video of the G20 security fence online and reportedly planned to keep track of police activities during the summit by listening to scanners.
