Facebook Reaches 500 Million User Milestone

Six years after it was created by a young Harvard student Facebook now boasts 500 million users.
The social networking site, created and run by 26-year-old Mark Zuckerberg, aims to have one billion users.
“Half a billion is a nice number, but the number isn’t really what matters here,” Zuckerberg said in a video post Thursday. “What matters is all of the stories we hear from all over about the impact your connections have had on your lives.”
The company is celebrating the milestone by launching a new application, called “Facebook stories”. It highlights how the service has changed people’s lives.
The number of Facebook users has doubled in a year — 100 million people have signed up since February.
