Bomb explodes in Bangkok, kills 9 people

BANGKOK, Thailand – A bomb explosion at a bus stop in downtown Bangkok has killed at least nine people.

Officials have not said whether this bombing is related to the country’s political turbulence in the wake of mass protests earlier this year.

The bomb exploded shortly after voting ended in a parliamentary by-election which pitted a government candidate against a jailed leader of the red shirt movement that staged the protests, which were broken up by the army in mid-May
