Ontario man held in Cuba could return home this week

TORONTO, Ont. – Cuban officials said passport restrictions that have kept a 19-year-old Simcoe, Ont., man in that country should be lifted Wednesday.
Cody LeCompte has been unable to leave Cuba since a car accident late April.
It’s believed government officials in Cuba will sign the necessary documents to release his passport.
Michelle Burnie, who has known LeCompte since he was a child, told 680News she’s been in constant touch with the family throughout this ordeal.
“Now, they’re just really hoping that it happens today and they’re not [going to] breathe a sigh of relief until [he] is on Canadian soil,” Burnie said.
Burnie said she’s hopeful LeCompte and his family will be able to return to Canada by Friday.
LeCompte was asked to sign another document agreeing that he would return to Cuba for a trial.
She also said his family is planning a welcome home party for him when he comes home.
