Fight HST campaign expects to sail through signature verification

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Wednesday we will find out if all the signatures on the Anti-HST petition are verified by Elections BC.

The Fight the HST coalition had until the beginning of July to collect at least 10 percent of the signatures from registered voters from every riding in the province.  It claimed to do just that and more, and now it’s Elections BC’s turn to see if the fight moves forward.

Former premier Bill Vander Zalm says it already appears as though the count is valid. “Because they told us at the outset that if there was a problem, they would end the count immediately, they wouldn’t keep it going.  We’ve not heard, so that means everything is fine.”

Vander Zalm says there will be no formal announcement from Elections BC. Instead they will give him the details sometime before 4:30 p.m.

Once they have the results, Vander Zalm expects the government to vote on the legislation that comes with the petition and is giving the Liberals until November 15th to do so.
