International Contest For Kid Photographers

It’s the magazine many young photographers dream of one day working for and it’s offering a chance for budding shutterbugs to show their stuff.

National Geographic Kids magazine is holding its annual International Photography Contest for Kids.

Young artists can submit images in the following categories: People; Animals; Scenery and Humour.

Last year, 13-year-old Simon Nikola van Lierde of the Netherlands won for an impressive shot called “Girl in Seaweed” (shown above).

Kids between the ages of six and 14 are eligible for the contest. Entries can be shot using conventional film or a digital camera. Black and white images will also be accepted.

The Canadian grand prize winner will receive a trip for four to Toronto and the Canadian winners in each category will get a digital camera kit. The regional winners will then have their images submitted for the international competition where they could win a trip to National Geographic headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Aside from the prize, the winner will also have their image printed in National Geographic Kids magazine.
The contest closes Nov. 1, 2010.
