TTC customer service report released

TORONTO, Ont. – A long-awaited report from an independent panel of experts on how to improve customer service at the TTC was released, Monday.

The advisory panel said the TTC needs a renewed focus on customer service and outlined 75 recommendations, such as regular town hall meetings and better signage.

Riders could also be seeing non-barrier kiosks in subway stations, where workers can field questions, hand out maps and help commuters re-route if there is a delay.

Chair of the advisory panel Steve O’Brien said better communication is also a top priority.

“We’ve had more complaints about subway being down. Somebody walks in, pays their money, goes downstairs and is delayed for half an hour, and they come back up, the collector didn’t say anything, the collector didn’t even know, and now the collector can’t even give you your money back because it is already down in the box,” O’Brien said.

The panel also recommended that the TTC hires a customer service officer to change the culture of the transit system. TTC chair Adam Giambrone told 680News that will likely happen in the next couple of months.
