Back-to-school countdown begins

TORONTO, Ont. – In exactly one week from Tuesday there will be a collective sigh of relief from parents as they send their kids off to school for another year.
So how ready are kids to hit the books again?
With just six full shopping days left for kids to swap their swimsuits and camping gear for notebooks and pencils, 680News tried to find out.
At Yorkdale Mall, located in the Dufferin Street and Hwy. 401 area, Leslie was well ahead of schedule.
She said she already put the finishing touches on all the back-to-school shopping for her twin girls.
“They have all their school supplies and they have their clothes – so I think they’re ready to go.”
While some of the parents and students at Yorkdale were just starting their school shopping.
Fifteen-year-old Andy told 680News, her and her little brother still had a long list to tackle.
“Well we need clothes, we need electronics, we need binders and notebooks and books. Everything – we need to get all new stuff.”
Meantime, although parents – like Leslie – said “It’s been a long summer and I could use a bit of a break […].”
Many kids said they are reluctant to go back to the classroom.
Nicole explained “[…] I don’t feel like going back to school and not being able to sleep in and everything.”
Many parents said getting kids back into the routine of waking up early and going to bed earlier after the summer break can be one of the toughest parts of back-to school preparation.
