OPP to conduct long weekend blitz

TORONTO, Ont. – The countdown to the Labour Day long weekend is on.

The Ontario Provincial Police is reminding motorists that officers will be keeping a close eye on the highways and waterways.

The blitz begins Friday morning.

OPP Commissioner Chris Lewis said his officers will be out in full force targeting aggressive drivers and boaters.

So far in 2010, 205 people have died on OPP-patrolled highways.

Seventeen people have died in marine fatalities this year, and the OPP said it gets daily calls from swimmers and boaters in distress.
