Forget UBC, Metro pushing for better transit in Surrey

SURREY (NEWS1130) – Why all the fuss over UBC? The City of Surrey is relieved a report from the Metro Vancouver Board shows that city deserves an expanded rapid transit line, more than one out to the university in Vancouver.
By 2040 Metro Vancouver is expected to hit a population of 3.4 million and a third of those people are expected to live in Surrey and White Rock.
Which is why Surrey City Councillor Judy Villeneuve says it’s about time the Board recognizes the city is desperate for a decent transit system. “I believe, because of our land base and our ability to densify around our town centres, that we’ll see — possibly — Surrey surpass Vancouver’s growth.”
She adds the report is now being sent back out to all municipalities for final approval and there will also be a public hearing held soon after.
Villeneuve admits as much as Surrey needs better transit, the real priority should be the Evergreen Line, which would link Port Moody, Coquitlam and Burnaby and has yet to break ground.
