VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – He says he has the support of his party, his caucus and his cabinet.
Fresh off a vacation to Italy, Premier Gordon Campbell says he has no plans to step aside, despite calls by former Williams Lake mayor Scott Nelson and former Energy Minister Blair Lekstrom.
Campbell was asked if he’s more nervous now since the Liberals are well back in the polls and he’s heading into a leadership review in November. “We’ve been behind in the polls before. As I said, there is not one of us that would not like us to be far more popular right now. We were elected to try to make sure that our economy was stronger as we came out of this economic downturn. I think people are pretty clear that our economy is one of the strongest in the country, if not on the continent.”
Campbell says he thinks British Columbians want to have more of a say when it comes to the Harmonized Sales Tax, and it’s up to the legislative committee looking at the anti-tax petition to decide that.
