Bedbug Summit Crawls Into Toronto

A bedbug summit is crawling in to Toronto on Wednesday and a Liberal MPP is hoping to create a Canada-wide solution to the rapidly multiplying problem.

Mike Colle (Eglinton-Lawrence) is hosting government representatives as well as people whose homes have been affected at Queen’s Park. Pest management experts, health officials and landlords will also attend.

Colle is calling for a national plan that will help eliminate the tiny bloodsuckers. He argues that bedbugs don’t know borders – they freely travel through airports and across provincial boundaries.

They’re also expensive to kill.

Colle is pushing for the government of Canada to provide people with information and to bring in standards for chemicals that could be used to kill the bugs.
